Is Grumperina's Jaywalker pattern way too ambitious for a first-time sock knitter? I'm a pretty capable knitter, in general, I just haven't knit socks yet.
I say do either the kids one of the one I have first. I'd get a basic one under your belt first. But hey, that's just me! I'll help you with this one I just did. It's easy.
Hey Carole! It's me, Carole, LOL. I think Jaywalker is fine as a first time sock pattern. The leg pattern isn't regular stockinette but that will keep you from getting bored. And she explains the heel flap, turning the heel, and gusset pretty wheel and those are the only tricky parts. Give it a go and if you need help, just yell.
Jaywalker is VERY straighforward and the results are GORGEOUS. The stitch pattern is way easy and simple to memorize and Grumperina provides detailed enough heel directions.
I thought socks were scary too, but they were my 4th project...and aside from picking up stitches (I'd never done that before) they were a breeze.
I say GO FOR IT! Its not nearly has hard as it looks.
BUT. They run small. So you need to check your gauge! There have been updates made for the larger sizes - there is a link on my blog entry - and you might have luck with that.
Otherwise they are super fun, beautiful, and fairly simple to knit!
Hey, I will start a pair with you. I bought some yarn a couple of months ago to start knitting my first pair and I just haven't touched it. I'm game for any pattern!
hiya carole! you won the 4th day of christmas over at my blog. do you mind sending me your new address so i can mail off your giftie? my email is to_amyaAThotmailDOTcom. thanks :)
Totally doable! It's a great first pattern I think - instructions are straight forward and it's pretty much a stockinette sock, but with a couple of decreases and increases which are a no brainer.

I'll join a local kal once Christmas knitting is done! Maybe it's a good project if the gauge runs small. I might be just fine!
Ok, back to grammar...

After Christmas sounds good to me. Is it time for our first SnB Tues. night KAL?

I think it is! Anyone good at making blog buttons? Anyone willing to show me how to jazz up my blog with nifty extras? In between quaint knitting?
