Biddy in progress

The front and one side of Biddy are done. Here's an awkward picture of the front:

I was holding it on myself and taking the picture myself, so there you go. You can see the cool stitch pattern, though. I think it will be very cool when finished.
I'm about halway done with the Irish Hiking Scarf, and then I have five more projects to knit/ felt after that in time for Xmas. Can I make it happen?? I hope so! I plan to knit allll day on Thanksgiving. Well, I'll stop to make the mashed potatoes and to join everyone at the table, but that's about it!
I don't like being stressed about knitting, I have to say. It's supposed to be meditative, damn it!!

cuteness follows

Oh my. This alien sweater is perhaps the cutest knitted thing I have ever seen. It's sold in kits only, though, no patterns. Boo. Plus it only goes up to size 2T. Plus it's $95. However. I'm just saying.
I want to find a chart for a peace symbol and make Viv a simple little rollneck peace sweater after the holidays.
I'm going to embark on a couple "wing-it" projects for both of them for xmas-- a Hello Kitty hat for Vivienne and a Pikachu hat for Silas. I hope I'm able to pull it off. I need to find bright yellow yarn and figure out how I'm going to knit a bow.

Also, I've decided to adorn all my holiday packages this year with homemade pom-poms. Won't that be cute?

um, 6 weeks until xmas??!!

I just realized. I'm scared. The Irish Hiking Scarf is coming along sloooowly. I want to make a list of things I need to knit, but certain recipients read this blog, so I can't. I also want to get Biddy done in time to wear for xmas. I think before I went back to work I could have pulled this off, but now.... well, I'm a little worried. Ok, I'll think of this one day at a time.
Tonight: another repeat on the scarf, hopefully two. Cast back on for Biddy & knit a few inches worth. Cast on for Vivienne's Kitty Hat.
ayeeee!

wee hat & one bootie

My boss and his wife are having a baby boy tomorrow (induction), so I knitted a little Umbilical Cord hat & a bootie (whose mate I'll knit tonight). Th ebootie pattern was found here. They are called Stay-On Booties and I recall how both my kids constantly lost their socks, because newborn feet are really pretty much rectangular blocks, so I hope they really do stay on. I added a pom-pom, because they looked too plain to me.

short rows, not so hard!

I just taught myself short-row shaping which is part of my pattern for Biddy. Not that hard after all! Yay!

mmmm, loving the knitting

Knitting goodness for today:

Sleeves blocking, yarn for Ribby Cardi arrived from elann.com (which, I noticed, is in my state!), and cinnamon tea:

Closer view of the yarn for Ribby Cardi, charcoal being MC & claret being CC:

I've discovered my kerchief, knitted last year, perhaps my 2nd or 3rd item, looks much better and more appropriately-sized on Vivienne:

How is possible that a year ago, I did not yet know the love of knitting?

w00t!

My hoodie is done being knitted! Hopefully tomorrow I can get it blocked, then seamed on Saturday. I'm so excited!

Next up, after xmas gifts, for me, is the ChicKnits' Ribby Cardi. The yarn was a major bargain. I got charcoal heather for the MC and claret for the CC.

I met a friend for knitting & tea today at Village Yarn and Tea, the new LYS less than a mile from my house, and had some amazing Apple Butter Chai, and fell in love with this vest-type top that laces in the back, so I was forced to buy this Rowan book:

Luckily, I have some charcoal Paton's Bella sitting here begging to be used which happens to be the exact same gauge as the Rowan Chunky Print which runs $15/ ball. I'm going to thread a red ribbon through the eyelets in back and wear a black shirt beneath, and hope to find a red/grey/black plaid skirt with which to wear it at Christmas. So cute!

Ok, hoodie pictures coming soon!

angry, sad, numb

Well, I am devastated. If it were just me, I could ride out four more years, but I am terrified for my children, for my daughter's rights. I am loathe to the idea that my children are currently being raised in a country that legislates hatred and bigotry. I am frightened for my 17-year-old nephew, because no matter what they say, if they don't get out of Irag quickly, a draft will be necessary.
I'm filled with fury and shame. Perhaps I'll be able to see through my tears enough for some soothing knitting later today.
