ooooh, my day is double-made!

After getting up at 3 AM for work, working 8 hours, schlepping preschool paperwork around, picking up Silas for his 6-year check-up, having to put up with his post-flu-shot whining and fussing, listening to the kids bicker in the car all the way home, knowing Todd has class tonight so I'm on my own, I gave up on the thought of expending energy to make dinner, picked up a Pagliacci pizza and felt guilty about it, but then... a package on the porch! Always a happy sign. Inside was some lovely, soft chocolate-colored Plymouth wool from my new hero, Bonne Marie, as well as a pattern for her famous bucket hat! And no, dear readers, that is not all! I went to her site to download a banner and found she's giving up some love for the blog of yours truly! Wheeee! I feel like one of those cool knitting bloggers everyone knows & links to. Haha! I'll take my 15 minutes of bloggy fame, thank you kindly!
My day has improved mightily. Now, if I can get the kids to bed and get some serious knitting in, it will end very nicely indeed.

Last-Minute Knitted Gifts

I love this book. Someday, I'll go to purl.

Anyway, I recently knit a cute cotton hat from the book with Mission Falls Cotton, which I just read is being discontinued. Sad, because I really loved the nubby texture. This hat could be made with any fiber, though, I'm sure. It's a great basic, and the eyelets and i-cord bow just make it so adorable.

Not much progress on the February gift, plus I've got two more baby gifts to make for the same time-frame! Gah! No ribby cardi for me!!!

two steps forward, two steps back...

I just got back from a 5-day visit with my best friend, scout, and while there, we worked on our Ribby Cardis together. Well, until I realized I had made a mistake in the bottom part of the ribbing. Ayeeee!! I had to pull it all the way out. Luckily, scout has a ball winder, so she rewound as I frogged.

I did get started on something else. If your name begins with L and you have a birthday next month, please don't read further!!

Okay, so I am knitting Midwest Moonlight, a lace scarf from Scarf Style for my mother-in-law for her birthday next month. I happened to have some Rowan Wool Cotton from an ebay score in a lovely lilac color, so that is what I'm using. If you want to see it thus far, click.
It's turning out really cool, if you ask me.
At some point today, I'll probably restart my cardigan, but the scarf has a deadline, so that takes precedence for now.
