my sister walks the walk

So my sister Susan is doing the Avon 3-Day Walk to fight breast cancer. As you may know, this is near and dear to me since my mom died after fighting two bouts of breast cancer.
She only needs to raise a few hundred more dollars in order to participate. She has been making and selling these gorgeous bracelets in order to raise money. They are $30.
If you are interested in buying one (100% of the proceeds are for the walk, so tax-deductible), please email Susan.

It looks as if there is gold in there, but it's actually silver and glass beads.
Thanks!!

self-potraiture can bite me

Why is it so difficult to take a picture of oneself? I took about a zillion mini-sweater pictures with the self-timer and I am making the most moronic face in every. single. one.
So. You get a cut-off head one:

I originally wanted to lace a ribbon through it and fasten it that way, but the sides kept migrating apart and then it just looked bad. So I remebered some cute buttons I had. I sewed one on but after wearing it all day yesterday, I decided it would sit better with two. The one side sort of rotated itself upwards with only one button, perhaps due to my lack of much boobage? Regardless. It now has two. They look white in the picture, but thet are actually a brushed silver:

oh look! I do indeed have a head:

Miss Mini, if you're nasty...

Here she is!

Yes, it looks like it's meant to fit my 3 year old, but that's because it's a minisweater!!
I used Lorna's Lace Shepherd Worsted in Black Purl, approx. 1.5 skeins. That's quite a bit less yardage than the pattern calls for, so I suspect my gauge was off. It feels a bit snug under the armpits, but I'm a relatively small person, so otherwise it all worked out well. Since I have no intention of knitting a zillion tiny triangles, I used a picot cast-off, which I think turned out just perfect with this sweater. Here is a closer view of the picot edge. And here is the picot-edged sleeve.
I'll take pictures of it on tomorrow, if it's not too hot. I'm in my jammies now an the two don't exactly match, so I'll hold off on striking a pose.

And now, because I'm a sheep-like knitblogger, behold my kitterkatters:

That's Tom sitting up-- he's 15 and quite the old curmudgeon. Rudy (aka Rude Boy) is three and is alarmingly in love with all things knitting-related.

coming along slowly

The house is sold. It looks like T has a job offer in Albuquerque so it;s coming together. Want to see my future house? Well, mine will be just like it when it's done being built. Ah yes, a brand new house for me. I truly feel grown. I'm flying down to Abq in a couple weeks to pick out my tile, carpet, hardware etc. It's all been keeping me extraordinarily busy. Which, of course, means very little tme to knit. I keep telling myself that once we are all moved, life will settle back down.

Anyway, I'm 29 rows into my Minisweater. Here she is:

Here's the Black Purl up close-- isn't it gorgeous?

I also got a lovely giftie from my Knitty SP:

I really have to get a swift & ballwinder for all this lacewight yarn I suddenly have!
House inspection today... wish I could just drop the kids off somewhere and sit in a cafe and knit peacefully. le sigh.

Hooo boy, I am a bad blogger, not to mention a never-knitter. My house is on the market and it's been insane! Getting it ready, keeping it all pristine for buyers (with a 3 and 6-year old at the helm, ahem!), hightailing it out when people want to see it! Ayee! Needless to say, no knitting has been happening.
I did get a gorgeous hank of Pippi Kneesocks' "Atomic Kitchen", with which I think I will knit this:
well, crap, the picture is password protected, but it's the alpaca neck-warner on knitpixie.com.
Not seasonally appropriate, but whatever. I can use it next winter.

Want to buy my lovely little house? Here is the listing.
